Our 77th Season: 2012-2013


The theme of this season was "A Lifetime of Singing" and it was a season of collaboration for us! 

brueckjulia2011This season North Shore Choral Society Apprentice Conductor, Dr. Julia Brueck,  assisted Music Director Dr. Julia Davids, preparing and conducting us in selections at two of our concerts.  We performed three concerts, and sponsored a workshop on "Healthy Singing at Every Age."  (Click here for information about our workshop.)

Plus we joined the Evanston Symphony Orchestra for the popular holiday program, An Evanston Symphony Christmas on December 9, 2012.

"Songs of Praise and Thanksgiving"

The North Shore Choral Society welcomed as special guests The Oakdale Christian Academy Concert Choir, Terrance J. Smith, Director.

The OCA Concert Choir hails from the South Side of Chicago and is known for its electric and committed performances.  Their young and dynamic leader Terrance J. Smith led both the children and the combined choirs in spirituals, gospel and inspirational songs, new and traditional.


The North Shore Choral Society also shared music of praise and thanksgiving, including Randol Alan Bass’s Gloria featuring pianist Sharon Rich Peterson.

This was an afternoon of uplifting and joyful singing.

"A Lifetime of Singing"

The North Shore Choral Society presented a concert that celebrates voices of all ages.

The Evanston Children's Choir,

Founded in 2002, The ECC has earned a solid reputation for its emphasis on multiculturalism, inclusion and accessibility, positive energy, and musical excellence.

North Park University
Chamber Singers

Julia Davids, Director

This small, select group of singers (both undergraduate and graduate students) chosen by audition, specializes in Renaissance and Baroque music.

karenbrunssenNorthwestern University professor and mezzo soprano Karen Brunssen narrated and sang.

Each ensemble performed signature repertoire highlighting their vocal colors and strengths.  We closed the concert with a combined number for all of the participants and the audience, commissioned especially for this occasion from Evanston composer Dr. Anne Heider. 

Regina Dominican High School was the perfect venue for this unique concert!  It was also the site for the very successful "Healthy Singing at any Age" workshop, held the day before.  Click here to link to a page with information about the workshop; click here to see photos taken at the workshop.

"An Afternoon at the Opera"

Peter and Kathleen van de Graaff and three of the 2012 Donald Chen Young Artist Award winners joined the North Shore Choral Society at the Glenview Community Church for a thrilling performance of opera music!  This concert presented some of the most beloved opera choruses and solos, accompanied by full orchestra. winners-mar2012
