BLUE
NOTES FOR TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 15, 2005
Remember
Donald's request at last week's rehearsal: "Please keep the evening of
Thursday, March 10, open for a possible extra Haydn rehearsal."
It's
official: The theme of the April 9 benefit is Spring into Song .
All the publicity for this event will be based on songs that deal with
some aspect of spring: "April Showers," "Tip-Toe through the Tulips," and "Spring
Is Here," for examples. If you have any sheet music with springy
titles, please let Mars Longden know IMMEDIATELY. Invitations will
be sent out by the end of February or the first of March. The grand prize
for the raffle is two-week stay at a Paris apartment plus $1000 for be
spent as the winner wishes-perhaps to purchase airline tickets.
Remember
that our purposes for having a benefit are several. Of course, we want
people to enjoy themselves. But we also want them to spend money on auction
items. And the more good items we have to offer, the more. Those donations
of items largely depend on us, the NSCS members. We can help by contacting
organizations which have contributed in the past (See the spread sheet.),
by contacting organizations which may wish to contribute now, and by
contributing things of our own. See Mars during this evening's break
if you have any questions.
Here's
a good suggestion for an auction item: Put together a combination "basket" with
several other persons-something with a theme. One idea is a Pasta Basket,
with several kinds of pasta and pasta sauces, perhaps with some parmesan
cheese and bread sticks and a bottle of wine? Other suggestions: Anything
French, Garden Lovers, Coffee Lovers, Nights at the Movies, Bow Wow Basket,
Tea Lovers. Cheese Basket. These can be fairly inexpensive and, if assembled
tastefully, quite appealing.
Posters
and postcards for the March 13 Haydn concert are available this evening.
If you cannot put a poster where you did for the December concert, please
let Eleanor Skydell know. Our northern distribution is still a good idea
because people who came to the last concert might be encouraged to come
to this one as well. We need more Evanston coverage, particularly at
Main and Chicago , Dempster and Chicago , and Downtown. Please let Eleanor
know if you are available to place a few more posters in these areas.
Click here to view the poster.
Postcards
will be mailed to many of our patrons this week. Additional postcards
are available to be given or mailed to others. Take what you need. Just
remember that the bulk mailing imprint doesn't work for individually
mailed cards; regular stamps must be added.
The
deadline for submitting information for the March 13 concert program
is coming up soon: February 24, to be exact. Do you have an ad that needs
to be updated? An acknowledgment that needs to be included? Something
else that needs to be added? If so, please email your information to
EllenPullin@comcast.net.
Haydn
tickets are available this evening at pre-concert prices: $22; $20 for
seniors age 65 and over; $12 for youth 12 and under.
And
even more musical puns:
Moltobolto:
Head straight for the ending.
Opera
buffa: Musical stage production performed in the nude.
Frugalhorn:
A sensible, inexpensive brass instrument.
Mallade:
A romantic song that's pretty awful.
Cornetti
Trombosis Disastrous: The entanglement of brass instruments that occurs
when musicians exit hastily down
the stage stairs.
