BLUE NOTES FOR TUESDAY, DECEMBER 14, 2004
Think BENEFIT.
Think SILENT AUCTION.
If we're to raise a significant amount of money at our benefit on
April 9, we need many attractive auction items of some value to spur on
the bidding. Sure, a Christmas gift that you don't want may be a good (though
small) start. But what about contacting restaurants, travel agencies, electronic
and appliance stores, cinemas, beauty parlors, bike shops, sports facilities,
landscapers, country clubs, theaters-on and on-asking for more desirable
contributions? Yes, it may seem a bit early. But there's still a lot of
work to be done after all the items have been selected and collected.
Susan Demaree, whom many of you will remember as a long-time NSCS member
and organizer of previous auctions, as well as her husband Wes, has agreed
to come on board again. But it will take ALL of us pitching in to realize
the desired profit needed to make our seventieth season truly memorable.
Gary Hendrickson has LaSalle Bank's Do-It-Yourself Messiah tickets
for those who requested them.
Thanks to all of us who helped set up and take down the chairs and music
stands for the December 4 rehearsal and the December 5 concert. Special thanks
to those non-members who helped in other ways: at the box office-Jamie Godshalk
(Marj Lundy's husband), Margaret Hendrickson ( Gary 's wife), and Judy Barker
(Len's wife); in the ushering: Liz Pinter (who also recruited her husband
and daughter), Jean McCullough, Willy Case (Elisabeth's son), and Ray Tolisano
(Kathleen's husband).
Anthony Green has CDs of the holiday concert for those of us who
have ordered them-at $15 each. If you don't get a copy this evening and
wish to have one, see Anthony at a back table; he'll be glad to order one
for you and mail it-all for $16.50, payable tonight.
We ran out of Messiah note cards at the concert. But-just
in the Saint Nick of time!-a new supply has arrived. Twenty classy notes
and envelopes cost only $10-half of which is a contribution to NSCS.
Bill Stribling, who records our concerts and prepares our CDs, has
prepared another CD to help ready us for the next two concerts; it includes
the German text for the Haydn and the choral section of the Beethoven.
Fifty of these are available during tonight's break for only $2.00; more
can be made if needed.
There is another opportunity for new singers to audition for NSCS
on Tuesday, January 4. Interested folk can contact Len Barker at lenpbarker@comcast.net
or 847/272-2351. (And he may also be contacted at those same locations
for items in January 4 th 's Blue Notes .)
The official attendance for the December concert-according to ticket
stubs-was 316. (But surely there were more than that?!)
Until January 4: HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
