 A Holiday Tradition

Britten: Saint Nicolas

Seasonal Delights

Sunday December 7, 2003    2:30 PM

Saints Faith Hope and Charity Church
191 Linden Street (at Hill Road)

Winnetka

Mark Eldred, Tenor

Donald Chen, Conductor

Rekindling a tradition from our early years, the Choral Society presents a holiday music experience.  Our concert opens with Benjamin's dramatic oratorio that explores the legends surrounding Saint Nicolas.   We then usher in the holiday season with a rich tapestry of Christmas carols beautifully and ingeniously arranged.

Using biblical texts, hymns, and poems, Pax Vobis epitomizes peace between nations and within oneself -- God being the catalyst in both.  Karl Kroeger, North Shore Choral Society member, composed this oratorio in 1976 to commemorate the American Revolution Bicentennial.  Unquestionably a favorite with singers and listeners, Mozart's Requiem concludes our season magnificently.

Celebrate Donald Chen's 20 years of service as Director of the North Shore Choral Society. Join us the Great Room immediately after the concert.  Read the message of celebration on this occasion from our President, David Hunt.
